Document Summary
Poultry digestion: have the biological capacity to grow teeth, but don"t because they"re not necessary for chicken ingestion, poultry has a few digestive organs that are specific to them. Crop (where food is stored and then potentially regurgitated for feeding young) Polygastric or ruminant digestive anatomy: lips, mouth. Molars on top and bottom: saliva. Up to 12 gallons a day in cows. Week 3 lecture 5 animal genetics tuesday 9/13/16 ansc 1001. Start digestion in the rumen/reticulum; transformed into microbial protein (essential amino acids) Peptides are broken into amino acids and absorbed in the small intestine. Rdp can be converted to either microbial protein or volatile fatty acids in the rumen/reticulum or rup. + rup converted into peptides in the abomasum and then peptides are converted to amino acids in the small intestine. Microbial proteins then go through the same digestion as they do when they stem from non-proteins.
