CFD 3240 Chapter 4: Pre-discussion Focus Notes Unit 4A
Document Summary
There is no more a "current "self" than a "permanent one. " His approach is based on his spiritual insight, not on any empirical investigation (as if one could reject or accept the idea of "souls" based on materialistic criteria). Karma in buddhism is what happens to the bundle of constantly changing experiences which you think of as your self. The idea is that there really is no changeless core of you, so real "self" which underlies all your experiences and which is more than them. Karma affects how this bundle of experiences will be changed based on what it does. The next incarnation of this continuously changing package of experiences will be a function of past actions. In buddhism there is no classification of kinds of karma ("good" or "bad" as in hinduism). There is simply karma, which is conditioned/changing reality, where causes lead to effects and these lead to more causes and more effects and so on.
