Document Summary

Myofibril- protein fibers> contractile proteins> sarcomere proteins> actin and myosin. Sarcomeres are also known as functional parts of the muscle. Filaments are labeled i, a, and h. I band contains thin filaments attaching to the z lines. A band has overlapping thick and thin filaments. H zone is apart of a band. Each thick filament is surrounded by 6 thin filaments. The interaction between the two leads to muscle contraction. As small as a few centimeters to 50. 1) a whole muscle is made of fascicles. 3) muscle cells are packed with myofibrils. 5) sarcomeres include thick and thin filaments. 8) a muscle cell houses lots of sarcoplasmic reticula and mitochondria. With adaptation to exercise muscle cells get bigger. W/ aerobic exercise it takes longer to reach hrmax. I band= thin filaments attaching to the z band. A band= both thick and thin filaments.
