Document Summary

Types of neurons: afferent neurons, interneurons, efferent neurons. Neural pathway: sensory neuron interneuron motor neuron effector. A glial cell is a support cell. Line the csf-filled ventricles in the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. Brain: 1350-1400 grams, size of brain does not matter, cerebrospinal fluid. Transports nutrients, chemical messengers, and waste products: krobinian brodmann. Figured out the different areas of the brain using trauma patients. Created the idea of 52 areas of the brain: division of brain: hemispheres lobes, brain is contralateral. Left side is controlled by the right hemisphere of the brain and vise versa: lobes of the brain. Prefrontal association cortex: processes complex information. Premotor cortex: site for planning the specific movement. Primary motor cortex: sight where you initiate movement. Broca"s area: area for speech initiation. Somatosensory cortex: conscious awareness of general somatic senses, precisely localize the stimulus received (spatial discrimination) Wernicke"s area: overlaps in temporal lobe, speech comprehension.
