Decameron 1. 1: cepparello/ciappelletto: notary working as a debt collector for a merchant in france. He is the most wicked man to have ever lived but can be relied on to deal with the wicked burgundians. Hired by franzesi to collect money from burgundians. He gets really sick while staying at the house of two florentine money lenders. They call him a friar so he can confess his sins. Cepparello says his worst crime is cursing his mother and pretends he"s lived a super holy life. He dies and the friar buries him in his convent with honors. People grab part of cepparello"s clothes as a relic and make pilgrimages to his burial site and claim miracles in his name. Jehannot de chevigny is friends with a jewish man named abraham. He wants to convert abraham to christianity. Abraham says that if he goes to rome and sees the pope is a good person he will convert.
