Where resources important to reproduction are located, there will be more competition for access to sex with lower reproductive rate, polygyny is more likely; monogamy with more resources and provide paternal care. Conditional reproductive strategy- when monogamous species retain polygynous traits, the degree to which this occurs is dependent on context and individual and difference arises from whether reproductive effort is placed on mating or parenting. Because females gestate, males are more competitive with higher reproductive capacity. In humans, more male-male homicides; females not as involved because of offspring (risk-averse)
