During lines _ ariana will try to portray the self-centered. When macbeth enters, ariana decided he would be more scared and disgusted by the witches than banquo because of banquo"s line why do you start and seem to fear / things that do sound so fair? (). The more the witches refuse to speak, the louder and more desperate and a little crazy. We chose to have macbeth begin line 89 jokingly to cover his jealousy and insecurity in not knowing whether banquo puts store in what the witches say (or even if he himself believes them). This is because macbeth sees them as less important because not only is he of higher status, but he has also just received a new, more important title. He already is starting to see himself as kingly and more important. To emphasize his self-centered nature, ariana will play. Macbeth"s asides downstage, to the audience, and a little over-dramatically.
