Immigrants didn"t generally have access to higher education. 2001: dream act didn"t have enough support to pass, but this would have given immigrant youth chances to citizenship. Obama in 2007 was an opportunity for the dream act to be passed. State-level allowed for undocumented youth to learn so these students fought for other students. Trail of dreams (jan 1, 2010) from florida to dc to share experiences in order to change minds and hearts. March 10, 2010: national coming out day | undocumented and unafraid. Death of founders of ideas, tran and felix. Dream university: public seminars and teach-ins on immigration. July 20: 21 undocumented went into senate and began sit-ins in offices all arrested, but not put in deportation hearings. 15 day hunger strike to pressure diane feinstein"s cooperation. Hunger strikes galore across nation to draw attention to the issue.
