The author inundate the reader with facts to prove her points. Additionally, the use of quotes from individual artists helps give a personal connection to the time period, as well as a factual comprehension of the time. She comes from a background of studying and writing about. African and chicanx studies, as well as spatial politics. The chapter was very clear about stating how reaganomics created more problems than economic prosperity for people of color and immigrants in the los angeles area in the 1980s. Consequently, the emergence of punk music, and hip hop gave the neglected people a voice, and importance. Such said groups were able to voice their outcry and rage during this very difficult time for their people. (johnson 161)
