Managers can use three steps for control. These steps should be reviewed as a continual cycle because the steps never stop. When the second step (monitoring) shows performance does not meet expectations, then mangers must take the third control step corrective action. Managers must correct he performance problems and steer the hco toward the expected performance standards. Corrections can be made by applying the management tools, methods, principles, theories, and techniques discussed in earlier chapters. Environment in which the work is performed. People who perform the work: they can be used to diagnose causes of performance problems. Managers can add other bones if necessary for additional categories of factors. Managers and staff brainstorm possible factors in each of these four categories that might cause the performance problem. Managers could drill down to identify sub-factors that might cause the disorganized files factor.
