Why do social psychologists do research (and why should you want to read. About it): make your hypothesis, then find our what they were, you avoid hindsight bias: people"s tendency to be overconfident about whether the could have predicted a given outcome. How do social psycchologist test ideas: hypotheses: prediction, theory: body of related propositions intended to describe some aspect of the world. Observational research: observing behaviors without interacting with participants, taking notes and interviewing participants, often misleading, so any tentative conclusions gleaned from observation should ideally be tested with other methods. Correlational research: determine whether a relationship exists between two or more variables. Conceptual replication -- programmatic research: direct replication: conducting the exact same experiment again, conceptual replication: conducting a similar, but different, experiment again.
