Expected to assert greater autonomy, become more self-reliant, & engage in more self-directed decision making. Become involved in romantic relationships with peers -> sexual exploration & intense emotional interactions. Adolescence presumed to by time when young men are coping w/ raging hormones . Reality: sexual harassment can have serious negative consequences for victims. Adolescence & emerging adulthood -> distinct developmental stage of life course. Many young adults in relationships are sexually active. Adolescents & young adults see intimate partners as major source of social & emotional support. Adolescence & emerging adulthood is period of high risk for problematic behaviors & experiences -> risk not distributed equally among all teens & young adults. College-age males: report romantic partners are most supportive in their lives & females: do not rank as the first but consider some of most supportive in lives.
