Masculinity hypothesis: view that women who commit crimes have bio and psychological traits similar to those of men. Girls are closer to their parents, esp. mothers, shielding them from antisocial behavior. Kids who are closer to their parents have higher levels of self control. Males learn to value independence; women learn their self-worth depends on ability to sustain relationships. Females socialized to be less aggressive than males. Males excel in tasks that assess the ability to manipulate visual images in working memory. Females excel in tasks that require retrieval in long-term memory and the acquisition and use of verbal information. Females learn to speak earlier/faster enables her to develop a skill that"ll let her deal w/ conflict w/o violence, instead negotiate. Girls higher in agreeableness; boys more open to experience. During adolescence: girls self-esteem lowers, boys self-esteem increases. 1 reason: girls more likely to worry about weight and be unhappy w/ their bodies.
