Face lights up, he feels pos feeling, increase heart rate, & may think, i got what i wanted . Discrete emotions theory - proposes that basic emotions are products of our evolutionary history that have some adaptive value. Babies may display this if they suck on a bitter solution. The reaction protects them from tainted food by causing them to reject / Functionalist perspective ( on emotions) - believe that newborns & young infants do spit out the bad substance. Their emotional lives may consist mainly of global experiences of positivity (excitement) & negativity (distress)
