Document Summary
Credibility judgements of detectives: the impact of nonverbal behavior, social skills, & Some individuals" natural behavior gives the impression that they are telling the truth (honest demeanor bias) whereas others" natural behavior leaves the impression that they are lying (dishonest demeanor bias) Public self-consciousness refers to the ability to become aware of another"s perspective. Expressive people also exude credibility because of their spontaneity that tends to disarm suspicion. Expressivity refers to the ability to engage others in social interaction. Introverts & socially anxious individuals impress others as being less credible. Introversion refers to an orientation toward the internal world of ideas & concepts. Social anxiety refers to being afraid of social interaction & being nervous during such interactions. The social clumsiness of introverts & the impression of tension, nervousness, or fear that is natural to socially anxious individuals are interpreted as indicators of deception. The control hypothesis provides a possible explanation for this indicator.
