Research purpose which is evaluating impact of social interventions. Operational aspects: measurement, study design, execution. Ethical-ness: try to remain impartial, may involve political, ideological, and ethical issues, don"t be swayed by personal desires or demands from sponsors". Social intervention: action taken within social context. Consider complementary measures that are not included in the study that may have an effect on the results. Whether to use new or existing measures. If studying something that has already been covered, evaluate the worth of measurement that already exists in relation to research situations and purpose. Creating new measures: greater relevance, greater validity, take time & energy, requires pretesting, comes with uncertainty, using preexisting measures. Quasi-experimental designs: no pre- and posttesting, no control groups, no random assignment, research designs may need to be created to accurately evaluate program in question, time-series designs. Possibility of regular fluctuations is eliminated: nonequivalent control group. Similar to experimental group, not created by random subject assignment.
