Please describe one specific function of a cell type or organ and how it contributes to and why it is important in the process of immunity. My personal favorite contribution to the immune system is the thymus gland. The thymus has the function of training and the maturation of t cells. This is important for the body defense system because. T cells defend the body from harmful pathogens. The thymus acts as a sort of hunger games type of training camp that is survival of the fittest for the developing t cells. The thymus receives immature t cells from red bone marrow and trains them to become mature and vital cells for the body"s defense. They are trained to attack only foreign cells in the body.
