PSYC 221 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Richard E. Nisbett, Fundamental Attribution Error
Document Summary
No: david c. funder, a personality psychologist, believes that the artificial laboratory experiments cited by ross and nisbett do not necessarily indicate that people"s perceptions in the real world are often mistaken. In the real world, people"s behavior is often due to their disposition. Very important to be able to accurately understand and predict the behavior of others. Lee and nisbett believe that people are predisposed to believe that the behavior of others is due to their dispositions rather than a particular situation or circumstance. If someone is rude to us, we tend to assume it"s because that individual is generally a rude person, instead of assuming that he/she is having a bad day. However, research has not demonstrated that people"s perceptions of others are usually mistaken. The experiments cited by ross and nisbett are not indicative of real world perception and behavior, as a result, people"s perceptions of others are often accurate.
