MGMT 2100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Brainstorming, Nominal Group Technique, Kurt Lewin
Document Summary
Work group: interacts primarily to share information with other members; not responsible for collective work product or their individual contributions to create something together [example: members attend a monthly staff meeting to share what they are working on] Work team: dependent on each other; must interact to create something that could not be created by only one person [example: a task force working to brainstorm ideas for improving safety in a hospital, each contributing different perspectives/ideas] Synergy: the team can produce something beyond the sum of individual member contributions. Five-stage model: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Forming- initial stage of putting the team together; individuals learn about each other and the challenges, expectations, and organizational structure of the team. Storming- team members debate, critique, and confront each other to decide on the best course of action. This phase can be a bit uncomfortable and/or unpleasant but it"s still necessary for the growth and development of the team.
