Common themes of neo-freudian thoughts: modern ego psychologists focus on the processes driving the perception & conscious comprehension of reality, ego psychologist focus on perception, memory, learning, & rational thinking, conscious thinking. The collective unconscious, persona, and personality: jung: collective unconscious - a result of the history of human species, all people share inborn. Versions of these archetypes, sometimes disguised with symbols, show up repeatedly in dreams, fantastics, cultural mythologies, & even in modern literature: persona - the social mask one wear in public. Horney found this view implausible & objectionable: if some woman wish to be men, she theorized, it"s probably because they see man as being freer then women to pursue their own interests & ambitions. Adults pressure child to obey, but child wants to control it"s own life: initiative vs guilt, the child begins to anticipate & fantasize about life as an adult.
