In the 1990s police were brutally beating suspects in their custody: many cases involved white police officers and black suspects. It started with the prosecution of la police officers who were videotaped beating up. A judge convicted schwarz of conspiracy to sodomize and of violating louima"s civil rights. A police officer must treat all citizens fairly within the limits of the law: well adjusted- a police officer should be able to perform his or her stressful duties without becoming overwhelmed and always affected by the stress. Officers must be thick-skinned to operate without defensiveness but also must be kind hearted and sensitive to the needs of other people. Police officers must also be aware of the dangers that comes with the job, they could be killed in the line of duty at anytime. September 8, 2017: people oriented- the main duty a police officer has it to service others.
