Rocco style- a shell, a shell of work, elegance, delicacy, softness, playfulness but retained much of the ornamentation from the baroque era. Two of the most important rococo composers were francois couperin (1668 : and jean-philippe rameau (1683 1764). The style that foreshadowed the classical period in germany and austria was known in its day as empfindsamkeit, or sensitive style. It sharply contrasted with the rococo music of france by using simpler melodies and less ornamentation. Carl philipp emanuel bach (1714 1788), son of johann sebastian bach, was one of its primary composers. The two composers most commonly associated with the style are two austrians, Wolfgang amadeus mozart (1756 1791) and franz joseph haydn (1732 1809). Both depended on commissions for most of their careers mozart as a concertmaster to the archbishop of salzburg and then later as a composer and music teacher in vienna, and haydn as a music director for a series of four.
