Document Summary

Global warming and the combustion of fossil fuels. Greenhouse gases- allow sunlight to enter the earth s atmosphere, but does not allow it to leave. The more greenhouse gases, the more heat is retained. The coefficients in a chemical reaction specify the relative amounts in moles of each of the substances involved in the reaction. Stoichiometry allows us to predict the amounts of products that will form in a chemical reaction based on the amounts of reactants that react. Mass a > amount a (in moles) > amount b (in moles) > mass b. Limiting reactant- reactant that limits the amount of product in a chemical reaction. Reactant that makes the least amount of product. Theoretical yield- amount of product that can be made in a chemical reaction based on the amount of limiting reactant. Actual yield- the amount of product actually produced by a chemical reaction. Always equal or less than the theoretical yield.
