Disorder is characterized by two categories of symptoms. Flat affect, alogia, avolition, anhedonia, lack of insight. Aberrant sensory experiences in the absence of actual stimuli. Rigid, bizarre, irrational beliefs (these are not consistent with the person"s culture) A break with reality caused by disorganization of the various functions of the mind such that thoughts and feelings no longer worked normally. Criterion a: two of five symptoms: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganize behavior, and negative symptoms. Ust have one of the first three. Must have impaired functioning for at least 6 months. An episode of the disorder lasts for 1-6 months. Criterion a: show features of scz and a major depressive or manic episode. Delusions of hallucinations for at least 2 weeks without mood symptoms. Mood episodes are present for at least 50% of the time during a psychotic episode. With mood episodes < 50% of time. Schizoaffective is right in the middle of the two.
