(john f. kennedy assassinated, police attacking civil rights protesters, casualties in vietnam) But in the fifty years that followed, the homicide rate in the us fell to its lowest. There were only 4. 6 homicides for every 100,000 people in the us. In latter half of 1960s more than the doubling of homicides. Not only the level of extreme violent crime had changes; the character of violence too. Young people recruited into the crack trade were killing each other. Perpetrators of homicides became younger, and the rise in lethal violent crime came to be seen as a problem closely linked especially with young black men. Dilulio (political scientist) wrote that the problem of violence was a moral crisis and pointed to a new form of impulsive, remorseless youth criminal as responsible.
