Ninety five theses on the church door 1517. Attacked the sale of indulgences which were forgiveness for certain sins. He was excommunicated from the church in 1520. Martin luther proclaimed a variety of liberal religious views, including christian equality that in turn gained him german followers which mounted his rebellion. Many peasants died because they took luther"s political views too seriously/literally and as guides to political action. Each ruler could determine the official religion of their region. Born in northern france and a son of a lawyer.
