True empowerment came from buying the right things and using the right products to look irresisibly atracive. Girlness was celebrated and mocked and thus had to be calibrated carefully. There were two types of men in this world predatory, and men who got it. These new shows like clueless and legally blonde would address the audience from the women"s view. These new shows like ally mcbeal and gossip girl sex and the city it into a new category. Women could be legally equal but they had beter be visually femine. Femine was outdated and a threat to women"s happiness.
