36 views4 pages

Document Summary

There are 3 systems that make the nervous system which are the central, somatic, and autonomic. Homeostasis- the body maintains an internal environment within certain limits. Alcohol inhibits the release of the antidiuretic hormone vasopressin which causes an incase in the excretion of urine. The nervous system contains 2 cells called neurons and glia. Neurons are the primary elements of the nervous system responsible for analyzing and transmitting information. The cell body is the central region of the neuron which houses the nucleus which is the control center. Dendrites are branchlike structures that extend from the cell body and special in receiving signals from other neurons. Axon is a thin tube that extends from the cell body and specializes in transmitting signals to other neurons. The axon is wrapped with a myelin sheath which acts as an electrical insulator. Also the glia form the myelin which is a white fatty substance.
