Pain- unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual/potential tissue damage. It"s like a cycle, pain stops quality of life which in turn intensifies pain and response to pain. Origin of pain- where pain is felt, not necessarily the source. Visceral- stimulation of deep internal pain receptors. Most often in abdominal cavity, cranium, thorax, Not well localized and described as tight, pressure, or crampy pain. Deep somatic- ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, ad bones. Radiating- starts at origin but extends to other locations. Referred- distant/ far from causal site; similar to radiating. Phantom- perceived from area that was amputated. Thinks limb is still there and experience burning, itching, and deep pain in the area. Psychogenic pain- pain believed to arise from mind. No physical cause but may be as severe as physical cause. Differs in way they affect the pt and how they are treated.
