Document Summary

The lymphatic system consists of a network of vessels that penetrate nearly every tissue of the body and a collection of tissues that product immune cells. Fluid recovery: fluid continually filters from blood capillaries into the tissue spaces. The capillaries reabsorb 85% of it but the 15% they don"t amounts to 2-4l of water and 0. 25-0. 50 of plasma protein. One would die if this was not returned to blood so the one task of the lymphatic systems is o reabsorb this excess and return it to the blood. Immunity: lymphatic system receives tissue fluid picking up foreign cells and chemicals from tissue. The fluid passes through lymph nodes where immune cells stand guard against foreign mater. When they detect anything potentially harmful they active a protective immune responses. Lipid absorption- in the small intestine, special lymphatic vessels called lacteals absorb dietary lipids that are not absorbed by the blood capillaries.
