Assumes that the whole person is constantly being motivated by one need or another and that people have the potential to grow toward psychological health/self- actualization. Believes everyone is born with a will toward health, a tendency to grow toward self-actualization but few people reach it. Felt hatred toward his mother and tolerated his absent father. Mother warned him about god but never followed through so he ended up hating and mistrusting religion became an atheist. He was jewish and felt lots of anti-semitism. He was intellectually gifted but his grades were only slightly above average. Close with his more outgoing cousin will maslow. Ny instead of cornell and enrolled in law school but quit because law dealt too much with evil people.
