VTPB 405 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Interactome, Biodegradation, Systems Biology
Document Summary
Genomics is the mapping, sequencing, analyzing and comparing of genomes. Sequencing refers to the determining of the precise order of subunits in a mcaromolecule. Sanger developed the rst method in sequencing dna: Sequencing by dna synthesis (rather than breaking it down) Ways to prevent further elongation of the chain. Shotgun sequencing refers tot the preparation of dna for sequencing. This method is redundant but allows for there to be no faults in the coding. Genomic library - the molecular cloning of dna fragments that cover the entire genome. Second generation dna sequencing- fast computerized way to sequence dna. Dna sequences must be assembled before they can be analyzed. Assembly of the dna generates a genome suitable for annotation- process of identifying genes and other functional regions in the genome. Closed genome- the entire genome sequence is determined. Draft stage- dispensing the genome in small gaps.
