Sex provides physical pleasure: it can be given and received as an expression of love and affection, it can also make us feel more masculine or feminine. Sex is a big business: in the us the annual revenues are between 10 and 20 billion, prostitution revenues are over 52 billion a year worldwide. Within the ancient cultures erotic material was regarded positively: first known sex manual was the kama sutra from 5th century india. Even information about birth control was not allowed: censorship in movies was also very strict. Gone with the wind was seen as explicit to many people during that time ( 30s: rock and roll was opposed by many parents in the 50s. It was opposed for its suggestive words and how the performers gyrated on stage: in the 50s and 60s the only explicit magazine was playboy.
