PSY 313 Chapter Notes - Chapter 15: Null Hypothesis, Statistical Inference, Bar Chart
Document Summary
Descriptive statistics- help describe a set of data. Inferential statistics- methods that use the limited info from the samples to answer questions about the population. Statistics- when the set of data describes a sample. Frequency distribution- a tabulation of the number of individuals in each category on the scale of measurement. Histogram- each bar indicates the frequency for each score. Polygon- points indicate the frequency of the scores and are connected by lines. Bar graph- space is left between the bars. Central tendency- identifies a single score that defines the center of a distribution. Mean- add the scores and divide by the number of individuals. The amount each individual would receive if the total were divided equally. Standard deviation- describes the variability of the scores by measuring the distance between each score and the mean. Degrees of freedom: number of scores - 1. Describing nominal and ordinal data- report proportion in each category.
