Gross domestic product (gdp) - value of all new production in the nation (or region) in a given period of time most common measure of production. Potential gdp (yf)- value of all new production in a nation given a period of time based on amount of available resources. Y2=yf means there is the right amount of unemployment. Y3>yf overproduction and thus this is not sustainable. Frictional- enough jobs but haven t found job yet. Structural- enough jobs, a mismatch between skills and jobs. Not enough job for all actively seeking unemployment (unhealthy economy) Issues/ exclude: discouraged worker someone who was actively seeking work but after many failed attempts has given up no longer showing up in the unemployment rate (true amount of u-rate higher if you include discouraged worker)
