Created morse code: dots and dashes that stood for letters, telegraph operators could make out the messages. James maxwell theorized the existence of electromagnetic waves: invisible electronic impulses. Guglielmo marconi received patent on wireless telegraphy: a form of voiceless point-topoint communication. Nikola tesla invented a wireless system in 1892, but marconi took much of his work and got the credit for it. Lee de forest created wireless telephony which later became radio. Reginald fessenden was the first to wend voice through airwaves. Broadcasting would come to mean the transmission of radio waves (tv signals) to a broad public audience. Narrowcasting or person-to-person communication was considered the use of the telegraph or telephone.
