Soc 248- reading notes- seranu chapter 2: work and trade. The division of labor: workforce commonly specialize in a single pursuit of income, then look to market for diverse goods of society. Would be bound together because they needed each other. Karl marx: agreed with smith that w/ capitalist production there was more productivity but worried about deskilling of labor. The new international division of labor: having specialists is more efficient than having many people trying to become generalists, division of labor grown within countries and between countries. Different parts of world specialize in different tasks. Industrial centers experiences deindustrialization as factories moved to export- processing zones, post industrialization occurred and people went into things like office jobs rather than factory jobs. The new frontier: from hudson"s bay to land"s bay. Industry has tried to combine 1st world tech with 3rd world labor for cheap labor costs.
