Miranda found that ipod users seemed just as open to providing useful information as nonusers ~ some seemed more courteous than nonusers. Personal stereo presents the illusion of separation making user appear less approachable ~ wall can be easily broken when we simply disrupt a person"s personal space w/words/actions . Social interaction over past decade undergone major transformation b/c of internet. Impression management: the world as a stage. Concept of social role originate in theatrical setting. Roles : socially defined expectations that a person in a given status (social position) follows. Goffman sees social life as played out by actors on stage b/c how we act depends on the roles we play at a given time. Ppl sensitive to how they are seen by others & use forms of impression management to compel others to react to them in the ways they wish.
