Most violence occurs w/ themselves, or w/ people closer to them. Type of psychosis w/ disturbed thought, language, behavior and emotions. Legal whether person knew difference between right and wrong \ Huge impact on family, intimate, partners & friends. May be recovery in some aspects but not full recovery from illness (spilt + mind) Dsm 5 criteria 2+ during 1 month period. Might hear a little sounds and mumbles but not full on voices. Relatively stable functioning w/ discreet periods of exacerbation. Individ variation in freq and intensity of episodes. Heterogeneous- wide variety, no one way to pinpoint what is and what isn"t schizo. Often bizarre; maintained in face of evidence that falsifies belief. Don"t go after the delusion, work around it. Better resp to antipsychotic medication, better premorbid adjustment. Better to have pos sxs than neg sxs. Not just one of these symptoms, but patt rep disorganized speech. Combine parts of two or more reg words.
