PSY 321 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Track Geometry, Latent Variable, Statistical Hypothesis Testing
Document Summary
Moderator variable - changes the relationship between two other variables. Cross-product regression - independent variable is first entered, moderator variable is entered, the cross-product of the independent variable and moderator is entered. Created by multiplying the independent variable by the moderator for each respondent. If it is statistically significant, moderated relationship is present. Relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable differs as a function of the moderator. Simple slopes test - statistical test of the difference in the strength of the relationship between those high and low on the moderator. Causal modeling - researcher derives a set of predictions about how a set of variables relate to one another, and tests all of these relations simultaneously. Variables that constitute a causal model are the actual variables that are measured. Variables comprising the causal model are latent rathe than measured variables. Latent variable - hypothetical variable that is purported to cause the interrelationships among measured variables.
