Document Summary

Prosocial behavior - describe such amazing acts of self-sacrifice, as well as the minor acts of helping, comforting and sharing that we perform during daily life. Sympathy - more muted feeling that we experience for another human being. Experiencing another person"s distress can provoke a variety of reactions from becoming immobilized with fear to behaving in a far-from-caring way. Men may be more prosocial in their own competence realm. People are more apt to reach out pro-socially when they are happy. External reinforcers undercut the happiness that flows from spontaneously performing costly prosocial acts. Model prosocial behavior, behave in caring and cooperative way, encourage a young child to talk about her emotions and respond, be attuned ot the caring things that your child does and attribute them to her personality. Induction - ethical issues when a child has performed a hurtful act. Allows for reparations, the chance to make amends. Works because it stimulates the emotion called guilt.
