Document Summary
Setting the context: how developmentalists (slowly) got attached to attachment. Attachment - powerful bond of love between caregiver and child. Not only at the core of infancy but human life. Primary attachment figure is crucial to your development. Proximity-seeking behavior - our need to make contact with an attachment figure. Activated when our survival is threatened at any age. Pre-attachment phase - during their first three months of life, babies are in this stage. Social smile - around 2 months there is a milestone. Attachment in the making - at roughly 4 months of age, infants enter a transitional period. Clear-cut (focused) attachment - beginning of the full-blown attachment response. Intense attachment that will last throughout the toddler years. Separation anxiety - when your baby is around 7 or 8 months old, they suddenly get uncomfortable when you leave the room. Stranger anxiety - babies become agitated when any unfamiliar person picks them up.
