Document Summary

Brain cells: a cell body, an axon and some dendrites. Space between axon terminal of one cell and its neighbor is called the synapse. Typically, info from other neurons comes into a brain cell by way of dendrites (but cell body or axon can also receive inputs) When a neuron receives enough inputs at same time, it will fire action potential (wave of electrical charge) down the axon. Usually neuron has only 1 axon, but it branches extensively, allowing many other neurons to be influenced. When action potential reaches axon terminals, a chemical called neurotransmitter is released. Neurotransmitter diffuses from terminal to dendrites of adjacent neurons & contributes to firing of action potentials in these. Conditioned fear: warning signs, cues that signal danger by past experiences. There is little forgetting when it comes to conditioned fear. & over without the us: extinction does not involve an elimination of the relation between cs & us.
