01:830:331 Chapter Notes - Chapter 10.2: Trait Theory, Twin, Dopamine Receptor D4
Document Summary
Temperament: a consistent style of pattern of behavior. Infants" behavior varies along 9 temperamental dimensions: activity: infant"s level of motor activity, persistence: amount of time that an infant devoted to an activity, particularly when obstacles were present. Hereditary and biology identical twins are more alike in most aspects of temperament than fraternal twins if one twin is temperamentally active, the other usually is too. Impact of hereditary increases with age: temperament in childhood is more influenced by hereditary than is temperament in infancy. Temperament has been linked to specific genes associated with neurotransmitters, although the findings are inconsistent. Temperament can be affected directly by parents" behavior (infants are less emotional when parents are responsive) Environment can amplify the genetic effects of temperament (infants with high levels of negative affect are more likely to elicit harsh parenting) Drd4 is not a temperament gene but it is linked to behaviors that make up temperament (e. g. novelty-seeking, fearlessness, etc)
