Leslie is terrified that their baby could inherit the disease that killed her grandfather. Leslie and glenn wish someone could reassure them that their baby will be okay. Red blood cells carry oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from body tissue sick cell disease= red blood cells look long and curved like a sickle. Stiff, misshapen cells can"t pass through small capillaries, so oxygen can"t reach all parts of the body. People with sickle-cell disease are often tired, may experience little pain for hours or days, and are prone to infections. About 10% of people die by age 20 and 50% die by age 50.
