Since 1990, there have been many young people involved in dance and theatre; who were trained in disciplines outside the arts. The pioneers of modern dance in turkey, as we have seen in the previous lecture, came from a ballet background and were trained mostly in the united. States; however the younger generation has more contact with europe, and their focus was more on conceptual works in dance rather than the highly elaborate technical works from the usa. Most of the artists and companies have begun to gain international recognition in the last ten years, yet just a very few can sustain themselves financially. They largely depend on festivals and international touring, since there is no financial support from the state.
