Level of family privacy increases, social control decreases. Support systems act as regulator or inhibitor of family violence. Support systems can know and intervene in violence. Abuse occurs in relationships with the greatest power differential. Person with the most resources or power has the ability to impose their will on other family members. Use force on the less powerful spouse or child. In heterosexual relationships, it"s the males who have power. Educating children that they have the right or power to say no to abuse and violence. Person perceives that they lack power or control in their work or social environment. But have power in their family relationships. Men usually have the most power in family environment. Ability to control the behaviour of others, with or without their consent. Many work in jobs outside the home where they perceive they are. No causal link between substance abuse and family violence. However, is common in all forms of family violence.
