Document Summary

Exploring population density data: download from the class d2l website the four files under the population density lab section. Click on each to load them into google earth. After loading, make sure all of the checkboxes for the four new files are turned off: use the navigation controls to view north america and zoom in so it almost fills your screen. In the layers menu, make sure borders and labels are turned on in the primary database: in the temporary places sidebar, turn on the sedac_pop_2000 (population density) data layers. Explore the no2 concentrations for january: deselect the population density layer. Then select (turn-on) the january 2010 no2 data layer, the one with the date of_2010_01_ in its title. This is a satellite data set showing no2 concentrations in the global atmosphere. No2 and other nitrogen oxides are air pollutants that result from burning fossil fuels and use of agricultural fertilizer.
