Motivation to pay attention: determined by a cost benefit analysis: selective comprehension: information in an environment must be sampled and attended to before it can be included in an individual"s internal model, two major types of information: new information and information relating back to old and already existing information, comprehension of new information is a demanding task that presents ample opportunity for errors to occur.
