Ch 6 - bio in the present: other living primates. Humans and other primates share forward-facing eyes and relatively similar diseases. Primates have a versatile skeletal structure: the opposable thumb ( refers to primates" thumb, in that it can touch each of the four fingertips, enabling a grasping ability) . With this, primates can grasp objects and manipulate small ones. They also have power grip (a fistlike grip in which the fingers and thumbs wrap around an object in opposite direction ) and. Precision grip ( a precise grip in which the tips of the fingers and thumbs come together, enabling fine manipulation: some primates have a tail that can grasp objects with, opposable toe exists too. Humans don"t have this because it would not be as stable for our bipedal nature. Primates have them to grip things in trees: primate vertebrae give them a greater range of movements and flexibility.
